Essential Worker Healthcare Trust Improves Recruitment, Retention and Health Equity for Oregon Nursing Home Workers

RISE Partnership program Essential Worker Healthcare Trust (EWHT) was recently featured by the Healthcare Career Advancement Program (H-CAP) for its efforts in offering high-quality, low-cost medical benefits to Oregon long-term care employees.

These employees, who include long-term care certified nursing assistants, medication aides, dietary workers, custodial staff, and more, were previously some of Oregon’s most under- and uninsured workers.

EWHT’s medical insurance benefits offer key improvements from previous employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) options, including:

  • 85% reduction in employee premiums, with no premiums for some of the lowest wage workers.
  • 67% average reduction in employee deductible and out-of-pocket maximums.
  • 90% of costs covered.

To start 2025, EWHT has been busy supporting Oregon SB 27, a bill that includes continued investment in long-term care labor management programs like EWHT.
